Josan Jewellery - Specialists in Wire Wrapped Jewellery
About The Artist

How did jewellery making become part of my life?

I was raised in an artistic environment.  My father saw beauty in scrap pieces of wood and used his skills at wood turning and wood inlaying to create beautiful and practical pieces of wood ware.  One of my sisters found inspiration in pottery and was creative with her glazing skills with many pieces of her work being on display in galleries.

For me, my artistic flare was evident in selecting and wearing one-of-a-kind pieces of jewellery.  A natural progression was to become involved in making jewellery.

From the outset I experimented with designs and colours that would result in something that would be unique and appealing.
One of my earlier pieces - Picture Jasper

Over the years I moved from beading to wire wrapping and wire sculpting.  The settings I use incorporate a development of both of these techniques to highlight the versatility in the movement and flow of the wire.

Although I endeavour to make each setting unique in itself I also aim to achieve this without compromising the stone's natural beauty and it's inherent energies.

Joining the local lapidary club allowed me to learn more about the medium I was working with.  I use the experience gained to build on the traditional cabochon format to allow the development of a more free style approach for my settings.
